Depressed in Derby

Oh no. Not again. Two defeats in a week. I can't take it. On Wednesday we didn't deserve to lose but the ref was conned by Reading players falling over whenever a Leicester player came near. How we lost the game I am sure I will never know.

Today was wholly different. You can't expect to win games if you don't play well, and we didn't. That said, neither did Derby County. They simply benefitted from a Leicester City howler. None of us watching could quite believe it when Andy King's back pass trickled over Chris Weale's outstretched foot and over the goal line. Calamity. At no stage did Derby look like scoring and they did everything they could to stop us from playing.

Oh well. I guess that is football. I just hope we can pick ourselves up and keep going to the finish line.

Spring has sprung - Bluebirds shot down!

Oh how right I was about the banana skin. In my humble opinion the Owls have often been a bit of a bogey team for us and so in spite of their awful previous record this season it should have come as no surprise that we got beaten. It wasn't that we were awful. We weren't. But we just weren't good enough.

However this Saturday was entirely different. There seemed to be something of an air of assurance and confidence about the way in which the Leicester players controlled the game. Cardiff City have taken a few knocks of late and their passing seemed somewhat fragile. Even Jay Bothroyd did not command the pitch in the way we might have expected, much to my relief. There was no shortage of LCFC candidates to score. In fact they seemed to be queuing up. As always, though, we bit our nails wondering if all of these chances were going to be wasted.

Along comes Waggy, not giving up on a ball which looked to be running quickly out of play, and slides a foot under it. Bang. David Marshall is caught out - one nil! The Cardiff City fans, who had been very vocal, were stunned into silence. Lovely.

Leicester City are nicely positioned. The future is in our hands.

Felling a few Trees

King and Dyer v NFFC

It has been an excellent weekend. Smarting from the humiliation of December few of us could have predicted the outcome of THE East Midlands derby. A grey nondescript sort of Saturday had attracted a bumper crowd, a near sell-out, to the Walkers Stadium. Nottingham Forest brought their full allocation of fans as expected. They were in full voice, and desperate to rub our Blue Noses in the embarrassment of December. Chants inevitably centred around the 5-1 score-line rang out from the away end.

The first half did nothing to allay our nerves. Both sides battled with no sign of a goal. Forest were very physical and their players seemed to us to get away with murder. Premiership referee? I don’t think so. But at least, going into the break, the opposition had not managed to score and our lads had played some nice stuff. The second half brought more of the same. The physicality of the Forest challenges seemed to be increasing as was the frustration of both sides. I really feared one of our players would be sent off. Tempers were getting frayed.

Then, out of the blue, a sublime move from Bruno Berner resulted in the first goal and rendered the away end all but silent. How good that felt. After that the Forest players seemed to go to pieces. Although they continued to battle their nerve seemed to have gone. A fabulous free kick from Paul Gallagher resulted in goal number 2, and a goalmouth scramble found Andy King directing Bruno Berner’s strike past Lee Camp. Never has revenge tasted so sweet.

Next up it’s Sheffield Wednesday. Another banana skin lying in wait….?
